The Navy
The Navy protects and defends the coast, harbours, and seas of Scotland and its archipelagoes.
Scotland's sea area is nearly 6 times its land area. With a coastline of approximately 18,500 km; the Navy protects 90,400 square km of Territorial Sea and an Exclusive Economic Zone that extends to 462,315 square km

The Navy protects this envoronment against the threat of invasion, coercion, terrorism, piracy, environmental damage, smuggling, people trafficing, illegal fishing, etc., and provides assistance to civil powers for law enforcement and humanitarian or disaster relief.
About Us
Though during peacetime operations the distinctions are less clear on a day to day basis the Navy is organised around a set of primary tasks:
-
Warfare Flotilla
-
Amphibious Operations Flotilla
-
Coastguard Flotilla
-
Training and Support Flotilla
-
Autonomous and Uncrewed Systems Unit
Warfare Flotilla

The primary role is to deter and where necessary defend against aggression from state and non-state actors towards the state, its assets, resources and interests. Everything from attacks against wind turbines to attempts at invasion.
Amphibious Operations Flotilla

Scotland's long coastline, many islands and sea lochs mean that access from the sea is often easier than access by road, rail or air. Defending this environment requires specialist equipment and training to transition from maritime operations to land based ones. This Flotilla operates primarily as part of the Marine Commando Unit
Coastguard and Auxilliary Flotilla

Emergency Towing, Pollution Control, Fisheries Protection, Firefighting, Law Enforcement, Border Enforcement, Maintenance and Laying of Navigational Aids, and Port Operations all and more fall within the remit of the Coastguard and Auxilliary Flotilla.
Training and Support Flotilla

Ensuring that the Navy has the right personnel with the right training in the right place at the right time along with the right equipment, spares, armaments, food, etc, is the priority for the Support and Training Flottila.
Autonomous & Uncrewed Systems Unit

The Unit is responsible for those emerging systems that enable us to project greater capabilities at distance with reduced risk to people.
