ree

The primary role of the Scottish Navy is to defend the people and territory of Scotland against attack or coercion from terrorists and other states.

Acting in co-operation with regional allies the navy spend most of its time training for this. Whilst these are amongst the less likely events to occur they are the ones that take the longest to prepare for and require the greatest skill and experience.

“Scotland's sea area is nearly 6 times its land area. With a coastline of approximately 18,500km the Navy protects 90,400 square km of Territorial Sea and an Exclusive Economic Zone that extends to 462,315 square km"

Secondary - Providing Aid to Civil Powers, Peace keeping and Humanitarian Aid

Whilst the primary role is what most will probably associate the Navy with, much of the Navy's time is taken up monitoring shipping, offshore energy installations and coastline for environmental, safety and security reasons. The navy provides intelligence and monitoring services to the police, SEPA and other arms of government.

Bath at home and abroad the Navy is stands ready to answer the call to provide disaster relief and humanitarian assistance 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. Everything from shipping industrial sized generators for communities cut off by adverse weather to delivering food and medical aid.
